Technology Post

I believe that technology has a very important role in every classroom and education related field. There will always be people who take advantage of technology by going onto pointless sites like Facebook and Youtube, but even things such as those sites can serve a small purpose. Youtube is a way for people to interact with others and to get their videos out there for the world to see and to understand things about other people. Even sites like Facebook or Myspace can be helpful in blogging or meeting other people to exchange ideas. I know a few people who find people on Facebook to ask questions about class assignments because it is an easy way of communication. As for the quote in the article saying, "technology does not always lead to a desired level of proficiency" I think this is false in a way. No matter what your job may be computers or technology somehow affect the way we live and work. I may not be advanced with a computer but when it comes down to it I can get my work done because I know how to accurately search for topics online or to communicate to people when I need help.

Personally, I feel that even if a student has access to technology, he or she may not ever achieve proficiency by him or herself. In order to become completely proficient, someone who is exceptional at that specific piece of technology should be teaching the student how to correctly use the technology to his or her advantage.

Technology

Technology is a very important aspect in today's world. Computers serve a very important purpose in almost any career field and without we would fail as a species beings. I cannot imagine not being able to click a button to view the world news or to be able to access the internet from my laptop computer without wires. Computers in education allow you to research various topics in a faster, more efficient manner. Using computers you can create presentations, web sites, access email, take college courses, and even buy your food and groceries. I believe that everyone should have general knowledge of computer use. You don't need to be a computer genius, but you should be able to use a computer efficiently.

Technology Blog

I believe that it is a good idea to use computers. Because that is what are generation is using more and more. Technology is now starting to increase and we need to follow it because if we don't then we will fall so far behind that there will be no way for you to catch up with what is going on in the technology world. I believe that it does give you skills such as learning to spell and speak a lot faster and it is something that is nice to learn. Because I believe in the next 20-30 years there will be no more pencils, pens, or even notebooks with paper in them. We will do everything on the computer because of how fast it is. I think it is a good idea because you are able to email your professor, mom, dad or etc. fast without having to see them or even speak to them. And most people who use technology regularly are very fast on it. So I do strongly believe in it.

The Myth of Student Technology Proficiency for the 21st Century

Below is the abstract of a paper which I will present at an upcoming conference. Please read, ponder, and make comments on the ideas presented.

The Myth of Student Technology Proficiency for the 21st Century

By Punnipa Hossain, Ph.D.
Professor of Educational Technology
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
Lock Haven, PA 17745

Access to technologies such as computers, cellular devices, and the Internet in developed and developing countries have increased many folds over the last two decades. With increase in access led to a belief that students are mastering the skills to effectively utilize technologies to their fullest potential. It is apparent that the so called technology proficiency is overstated. Research shows that access to technology does not always lead to a desired level of proficiency. Educators assert that the access should be followed by a systematic approach to technology education put forth in the ASSURE Model (Heinich et al. 2005). The model approaches education from a holistic perspective emphasizing on self-efficacy guaranteeing effective use of technology through diligent use of the cognitive process.

Educators face a daunting task to make an argument that surfing the net, posting on the YouTube, participating in social networks, and playing on-line games are not sufficient skills to build a knowledge base to succeed in the 21st Century globalized world.

The proposed presentation will demonstrate the use and relevance of ASSURE model to train teachers to devise strategies that would create sustainable technology skills among students which will not only lead to individual and professional growth but also generate social transformation.
